OACIS Middle East has signed a landmark multi-year agreement with Amadeus to offer off-airport check-in services across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, commencing its initial phase of operations in the Saudi Arabian travel market.
Amadeus and OACIS launched off-airport check-in services in Australia in 2017 and processed thousands of passengers arriving through the Sydney Cruise terminal, later to expand its service portfolio to include conferences, schools, sporting teams, major events and hotels in New Zealand and other Australian cities, including Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. Following its success in the APAC region, OACIS commenced its GCC operations from its Abu Dhabi base in early 2020 and continues to expand the locations and customers it serves.
The revolutionary off-airport check in services offered by OACIS enables travellers to check in and process their baggage conveniently at their residence, hotel or location of their choice. OACIS proprietary digital application, paired with Amadeus’ cloud-based ACUS technology, facilitates airports and airlines to offer their passengers a premium, value-added service, which makes travel simpler and more enjoyable. For airlines and airports, this service brings multiple benefits: it removes congestion from the airport terminal, speeds up passenger processing, offers customers more choice, and of course provides a more relaxed and pleasurable start to the journey. With off-airport services, airports can reduce congestion by processing passengers both on and off site.
As part of this agreement, OACIS (Off Airport Check In Solutions) Middle East will deploy initially 40 ACUS (Airport Common Use Service) mobile terminals across Saudi Arabia linked to its main airports and to most of the carriers flying to and from the Kingdom. Services will include home check-in and baggage collection, as well as servicing the pilgrims traveling for Hajj and Umrah to Jeddah and Medina. The expansion plans are well underway for OACIS to offer the off- airport check-in services across the GCC region as part of its ambitious growth strategy.
Titten C Yohannan, Chief Executive Officer of OACIS Middle East says, – “The expectations and demands of travellers are fast-changing about how, when and where they can check in and bag drop for their flights. OACIS is excited to bring the airport to the traveller’s doorstep. Our partnership with Amadeus underscores OACIS’s continuing commitment to the digital transformation of the aviation landscape and fortifies our global position as the pioneers of off-airport check-in services. We believe that our award winning off-airport check in services will usher in much-needed travel flexibility, safety assurances and peace of mind to air travellers”.
Matt Lee, Chief Executive Officer of OACIS PTY LTD in Australia says “We are excited about the opportunity to bring our award-winning concept to the Middle East. Having launched our business in Australia in 2017 and then grown to New Zealand, we look forward to offering customers in the GCC our off-airport service so they too can enjoy the freedom, flexibility and fun offered by OACIS.
He continues: “Amadeus has been a wonderful partner for OACIS since our inception and we are delighted to be able to extend our partnership further through OACIS Middle East. Amadeus ACUS is a cloud-based solution which means we are un-tethered from traditional, legacy airport networks. We are able to operate completely unconstrained with the freedom to offer our service from any location. With off-airport services, airports can reduce congestion by processing passengers both on and off site.Yannick Beunardeau, Vice President Airport IT, EMEA, Amadeus says: “We are thrilled to support OACIS’ efforts to facilitate exceptional passenger experiences. Our ACUS units offer airports and airlines the freedom and flexibility to establish check-in and bag drop from any location, whether it’s the traveller’s home or a hotel, supporting demand for fewer interpersonal interactions and social distancing efforts that have been made by airports in light of COVID-19.”
